Children Support Groups

Winter 2012 Family/Children Support Session

Orientation: Tuesday, January 10, 2012  5:30pm-7pm

Winter Sessions Begin Every Tuesday, Beginning January 17th- March 20th, 6pm-8pm

Roberta's House serves children between 5-17 years of age with the understanding and commitment that no child (or adult) should grieve alone. Children grieve in small doses at a time and their approach is unlike that of adults. They grieve a little and they return to their play and return to their grieving which may appear to adults that they haven't been impacted by the death at all. This deceiving behavior means is that they are grieving in their own way-but grieving nonetheless.

Following a death children often have many questions. Roberta's House is a safe place where they can explore their questions as they are ready . It's a place where they receive support and encouragement from their peers and caring adults; a place where they can have fun while creating treasured memories to honor their loved ones and move forward embracing their new life with the memories.

Children work in age appropriate groups for "Kiddles" ages 5-8 years, "Middles" ages 8-12 years and "Teens" ages 13-17 years. Through the use of creative arts expression, crafts, and meaning making through memory treasures children are able to begin the journey of accomplishing the tasks of grief work.
